Despite abandonment, Regina triumphs for her family

“This will be my first time l will ever buy blankets using my money. All we had was donated to us by the Salvation Army Church.”

We are constantly exposed to the ideas of famine and pestilence that almost seem synonymous with Africa. However, these problems are only compounded when families are broken.

Regina is a young mother of 3 who is both HIV positive and has suffered from tuberculosis for over 2 years. Her in-laws grabbed the little family belongings she owned and left her alone to care for her children. Due to their situation, none of her children go to school. However, after this harvest, Regina is enrolling her 3 children at local community school. The school is 5 Km away from her village.

She says, “My life has been renewed after receiving the farm packs from Seed Their Need Zambia. I have enough to feed my family before the next farming season. The surplus will give me enough money to send 2 children to school and buy 3 blankets for my family. This will be my first time l will ever buy blankets using my money. All we had was donated to us by the Salvation Army Church. I am determined in my next farming season, l will have enough to buy 2 goats, my big dream and desire.” Goats are a big part of family lives in Zambia, as their milk is an important source of nutrition for kids.
